Some of the secret joys of living are not found by rushing from point A to point B, but by inventing some imaginary letters along the way.  ~Douglas Pagels, These Are the Gifts I’d Like to Give to You

I have wanted to get rid of my car for a few years now. Once it started needing things like a new radiator, a muffler and by far the best one- a new engine- I took it as a sign to plunge into slowing down.  As a music teacher I often ask my students to find their speed. It is the speed they play the music the best and in the most expressive manner. Getting rid of my car was the first step in finding my speed.

The plan is for at least 6 months living without a car and see where it takes me.  This blog is a spot for me to collect research, stories and pictures of this adventure to find my speed. So far there have been unexpected results of that one step to slow down and finally exit the fast lane.
